Flare Path star of the show

In all honesty, I was probably lured (or at least made aware) into seeing Flare Path, for the thought of seeing Sienna Miller in action. She comes across as a likeable, beautiful, successful girl next door who gets a hell of a bad time on the press and I wanted to see her acting, stripped bar, as opposed to on the big screen.

She looked fantastic and played her part well- I didn't think her character had much scope to stretch her acting abilities but whenever there was a slot to excel, I didn't think she orse the occasion as she could have done.

Sheridan Smith, however took the stage by storm, lavished in the limelight and made her character come to life. She was brilliant. I have no intentions of wanting to see Legally Blond at the theatre (even less so to see Duncan from Blue perform) but judging from her performance in Flare Path, it would be well worth a visit.

Style crush...Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo is not only beautiful, uber stylish and just happens to have hunk of a hot fellow on her arm but is also very sweet and unassuming. Contradictory to popular believe from her stint on 'The City'. Swoon!

The LOOK Show-newsy style

The LOOK Show took place at Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square yesterday, in conjunction with London Fashion week. Showcasing the best high street fashion combined with a star-studded front row, it's no wonder the tickets sold out in just a few hours.

Celebrities and high street fashionista's took the guest-list by storm, making it the third successful fashion show produced by LOOK magazine.

Fashionista of the moment Olivia Palmero was the highlight amongst the famous faces. Wearing a mustard mini dress, black blazer and on trend leopard print shoe boots, she looked every inch the part.

Amongst other celebs to attend were X-Factor winner Shayne Ward, TV Presenter Emma Willis and ex-Sugababes member Keisha Buchanan. 25-year old pop singer Marina Diamandis made a statement in a knitted jumper with sewn on mice, potent pink lips and grey streaks in her hair.

Jay-Z'S latest protégé, Alexis Jordan was a hit sensation, performing on the catwalk inbetween shows, then up and coming girl band Wonderland charmed crowds afterwards with their live performance.

Celebrating accessible, affordable trends, The LOOK show is the only fashion show open to consumers during London Fashion Week. Eleven of the hottest high street brands showcased their Spring/Summer collections. Brands walking the catwalk were Dorothy Perkins, French Connection, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Mango, Monsoon Fusion/Accessorize, New Look, Next, Uniqlo, River Island and Warehouse.

Bright block colours owned the runway and there was a clear comeback of the hippy 70's. World class model Petra Nemcova stole the show in a cream pleated French Connection maxi dress and winning smile.

In partnership with ITV, LOOK magazine has recently become the first publication to hold a curvy model competition where three of their voluptuous finalists took the catwalk by storm. Editor Ali Hall revealed the winner of the competition at the end of the show. Who won? That would be telling! That is, until next week...

Good old British manners (aka I'm a massive wimp!)

A chilled Saturday morning at the luxurious Cowshed at Shoreditch House. My friend (pictured here) opted for a relaxing french manicure- feet up, tv screen placed in front of her, spa type music wafting through the room- you know the way it works!

I chose the head and shoulder massage. Placed in a delicious smelling, soothing private room, the sensuous massage began to send me to the world of sleep..until- HANG ON, hang on- are you pulling my hair!? Ouch- yanked around in a circular movement which I can only assume was to relax me, had my eyes virtually streaming under the lavender eye mask. What do you do!? Do you let out a polite 'ouch' (and seem like a wimp), say 'oi!! that ruddy hurts!!' (and seem like a bitch), or do you just make it perfectly obvious by tensing everything you have, that this just isn't working for you? Which, ever the polite Brit, I chose to do,in the hope of it working. And soon!

'Is that a little hard for you Madam' the masseuse finally said.

'Oh perhaps just a little' I, the ever polite wimp replied.

Modern art

Andrej Pejic for Jean Paul Gaultier ? Brilliant.

Highly disturbing, intrigued or disgusted, love or hate. Fashion creating a controversial opinion- isn't that what art is meant to do.

Chav-ulous McQueens

Went to new groovy 'McQueens' in Shoreditch last night for fabulous cocktails- unfortunately ended up being rather more chav-ulous cocktails as they rather took over towards the end of the night. Dancing on desinger tables in short skirts that would make your Grandmother blush? No thankyou!

Still, at last the cocktails were yummy.

The tale of the new boots

Liberty sale- amaaaaaaaazing!! Got these fabby Beau Coops boots (is it bad I've never heard of them before!?) Anyway, we will live happily ever after. Huraah!

Italian saints

An eventful evening creating homemade pasta last night- Gordon Ramsey's spinach & ricotta ravioli FYI. (Ok, slight exaggeration- my housemate Jennings 'made' it, I helped!) but all credit to those Italian mama's, they must have the patience of a SAINT! Absolutely delish though (my mouth salivates thinking about it). Yum...

Note to self; must book another trip to Italy

'Follically-Challenged'

The Daily Mail do make me laugh. Quote from today ' Rihanna has an animated conversation with a follically-challenged spectator during a break in the game'. Who says the words 'follically-challenged'!??! Haha brilliant!

Lunch time Gauguin

Nipped into the Gauguin exhibition at at Tate on my lunch- love his colours and love his sketches. There's something just not quite right about his work, as if it's not aesthetically correct but the energy and optimism (even shedding a positive light on the prostitutes) seems to overshadow his incorrect form.

I don't fully understand the randomness of some of the objects he juxtaposes but I love the cheeky signs he send out as if to tell a story- such as the girl loosing her virginity, set against a vivid rose pink and purple landscape and a fox on her shoulder.

In all honesty, my thoughts so far are really only valid through from rooms 1 to 4 as I spent most of the time chatting to my lovely colleague, Gemma. Will have to go back next week.

An evening with Vogue

Reading the 'Queen Victoria' feature in Vogue- surely those Voguettes aren't going to be too charmed she's quoted on not planning on having a baby girl anytime soon. And then hello news of a brand new Beckham baby! Oops.

Also, enjoyed Alexa Chung's feature on Christopher Kane more than I thought I would- so she's an established writer nowadays? Not sure how I feel about celebs' free ticket into a career they're not necessarily trained in- does it make a mockery out of those who have wasted blood, sweat & tears in training? Not normally a fan of the darling fashionista twiglet, it does however, seem to me as if Miss Chung has a natural, previously unknown talent for writing. Good on her!

Monday, 10 January 2011

In an age where women are encouraged to be savvy, independent, strong, express their point of view and follow their career dreams how and why is it possible for a man to still sweep one off their feet and it all goes to pot. Romance you might say, but in the light of taking over thoughts, imagination and day dreaming alike- it's just darn inconvenient!

Women. Another thing, in this day and age or any other for that matter, we're never happy you know!

Friend crush

Whilst out experimenting different pubs in Islington on Saturday night with my lovely friend Isy, she insisted that writing is like a muscle and it needs exercising. I have to agree, so I am back on the blog. A dear diary if you like. Let me tell you a little about my friend Isy; she is this incredibly intelligent, beautiful, hugely ambitious character who can drive me mad with her poignant point of views to the point of raising my voice even (not many people manage this). Yet she has this unique charming charisma that you just fall in love with; she's witty, thoughtful and has the power and authenticity to make you feel like you are someone far more successful than you actually are. In a word she's brilliant. Girl crush maybe? Friend crush.
